Dorothy L. Smith, age 83, of Millersport, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Selma Markowitz Care Center.

She was born in Glendale, West Virgina, on February 18, 1927, to the late George and Catherine (Stull) Fullmer. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville and the Humane Society, and enjoyed reading and gardening.

She was born in Lancaster, on January 23, 1960, to the late Barry Ronald and Lois Larraine (Mitchell) Emrich. She was formerly of Beavercreek, Ohio, a member of the Millersport Covenant Church and worked for Iqor.

BLACA Tour of Homes returns August 8

BUCKEYE LAKE – The Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association’s annual Tour of Homes returns for its 25th Anniversary Edition on Sunday, August 8.

The first boat will leave the Lieb’s Island Boat ramp at noon and the last boat embarking on the tour will depart at 3 p.m. This year’s tour features lakeside homes on the south side of the lake.

Fairfield Medical sees increase in Pertussis cases

LANCASTER – Over the last several months, Fairfield Medical Center’s Infection Control Department has observed an increase in the number of Pertussis cases (also known as whooping cough) in our community. As of July 2010, there have been 36 cases detected through the laboratory at Fairfield Medical Center.

Trustees award road resurfacing contract

JACKSONTOWN – There weren’t any disputes or questions about Licking Township’s road resurfacing solicitation this year.

Just one firm – The Shelly Company of Thornville – submitted a bid for the Monday night bid opening. Their bid listed a start date of August 16 and a finish date of October 15. The road by road bids are:

FREE tire disposal this Saturday at Lakewood High School

HEBRON – The Licking County Health Department is holding two free scrap tire drop off events this summer.

The first one is set for Saturday, July 24, at Lakewood High School, 9331 Lancer Drive off US 40. The second one will be held Saturday, August 28, at the Eden Township Building, 10298 Purity Road in St. Louisville. Both events run from 8 a.m. to noon.
