Fresh produce gets handled many times
I was just watching the Doctor OZ show and they were talking about how many people actually touch the produce before you buy it. The real number of hands is around 20 people or more, plus the chemicals and other things that can get on produce from the field where it is picked, the processing plants, trucks and such. I never really thought about it before.
When they say, be sure to wash your produce, it is very good advice and looks to be very important too. Ok coarse, some items get very hot when cooked like potatoes.
Another thing to watch out for is your hands after you pick through the fresh produce..
BTW, this also applies to bulk foods that are in a bin.. yep, more people are handling these too.
I will be looking at this differently when at the grocery from now on..
I enjoy the DR Oz show when I happen to catch it, lots of good info.
They were also saying to put the meat in separate bags before putting it into your cart just in case the blood is leaking a small amount.. so that it won't get on the other items in the cart. Something I never thought about before.
I don't have the money to buy much meat these days with the economy being down and not much work. But still, good info.
I am thinking it would be good to take a hand wipe or something for after choosing produce and meat.. I do wash my hands a lot in the normal coarse of a day, but never thought about the grocery store much.

Thanks. I never thought of it like that. Good point!
