Ok....simple as this is I was wondering what brand spark plug would be best suited for a 1991 Mercruiser 3.0 lt. engine. Over the years I've used many diff brands in my cars and I know many people have "preferences" over other brands so whatcha say guys 'n gals...what brand do you like best. Thanks

PS...the 3 brands recommended by Mersruiser is: AC....Champion and Autolite.

continued from above..

seems the original owner of this motor liked NGK and used NGK-R BR6FS........I'm assuming the "R" is resistor type.

I don't usually spell "Mercruiser" as "Mersruiser"....lmao.....sry Merc lovers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

spark plugs

Hi Paul, From my experience on the water, the main thing is having an extra set of plugs and a plug wrench or socket. The 4 strokes have what they call detonation, which is hard on the plugs. The detonation is the point of explosion and vibrates the insulators in the plugs. You never know when one will have a problem.

The plugs on 2 strokes last a long time because the detonation just isn't near as bad, but they can get fowled easier..

As far as brand goes, everyone has their preference.. but the important thing is useing the right heat range or plug number.

Thanks.....................

After pulling the plugs I found one had a cracked insulator so as advised I purchased 8 Champion plugs....4 to keep onboard for "situations".

Thanks Tester

heat range

If you get one that does fowl or wants to missfire, sometimes putting in a hotter plug can fix it. I have a heat range chart if you need to know any of that stuff.

They should come out looking medium grey in color after running a while.
